These two designs were done in different ways, but still, in much the same way. I like to work in a spontaneous manner, and don't normally use templates. Instead, I do some preliminary sketches on paper, then start inputting the stitches onscreen freehand on the screen. I go on walks with my sketchbook and draw things that interest me in order to absorb them. When I get back to the studio, I start the digitizing. It may take more than a year to complete a design. I think of the embroidery as part of a larger item, they are the components of larger pieces. On the home page you can see these designs in a finished piece.

This is a design I made by combining several built in PCD stitches. I added color changes to make editing easier. Of course, you can make it all one color.
below is a design made from a pcd stitch Lea Brown made years ago. I then brought it into PCD, did a little editing to make this frame design.
